@come2gether I understand the appeal, it just happens to make me sick that this is what people are willing, even eager to settle for. And very, very disappointing to know just how many.

And how many are willing to suck up to the man, even fear the man, putting their own morals, ethics and values aside, to advance their own agendas. Politics has deteriorated to the point that the best and the brightest wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole.

I’m actually very cynical by nature but still all this has caught me by surprise. I thought at the very least people would believe that they deserve better than a morally bankrupt malignant narcissist. Who lies as easily as he breathes. The bar isn’t even low, it’s on the ground. And that makes me really sad.

@come2gether Boldness does not have to come in such a crass, morally repugnant package. Is that really the only choice available to achieve our goals? It’s more than the surface, it’s bone deep. Nothing I would ever be willing to accept. A bar I could never set so low. I respect myself and my fellow citizens much more than that. We deserve better than that. Never thought I’d be embarrassed to be an American and it truly disgusts me that it’s come to this, deeply, deeply disappointing.

@OlderSometimesWiser no. Polite diplomacy has gotten us nowhere for a long time. Right now, not just carry the big stick, but start swinging it. The world must take notice.

@come2gether So Trump or Trump-like is our only option? I’m sorry you’re willing to settle for being represented by such a disgusting human being. I have more faith that bold, forceful and capable can come in much more admirable forms.

@OlderSometimesWiser so, you think Biden or Harris could, or even would have tried, to stand up to world bullies? You know that wouldn't have happened! It would have been more weak policy. Weak American policy leads to more wars. Strong American policy leads to less wars. Look at the history.

@come2gether I absolutely do not think Biden or Harris could/would have stood up to world bullies. Biden, like Trump, is ready for the home, bingo at 2, dinner at 4, pills at 6, bedtime at 8. And a huge mistake making Harris the candidate. Totally inept and unqualified. Please don’t assume I think Democrats are any kind of brain surgeons in all this. Again, the problem lies in being left with Trump and Harris as our only choices. And it’s beyond frustrating and embarrassing in one of the so-called greatest countries in the world, with some of the most brilliant minds in the world, that we can’t find a way to do better, to be better.

But the divide and conquer mentality seems to have taken over, pitting us against each other when most of us, at the root of it all, pretty much want the same things, a safe, peaceful, healthy, prosperous, fulfilling life for ourselves and our families. Instead the politicians say, “look, over there, a flock of turtles” and our attention is diverted once again, having the same dopey, dog chasing its tail around arguments while they royally eff us.
