Is it legit to give a woman her space when she seemingly has to get over her past relationship?

I like her as a friend so far, in drunk moments thought of more, but always had in mind to just let her be happy. Now is it legit or weird if I choose to give her space and let her spend time with less people by avoiding her if she needs time?
