Why would a woman ask a guy if he's close with another woman?

A lady I recently met and barely know asked me if my girlfriend and I were close, she didn't know I had a girlfriend yet.

I guess it's likely an interest, wanting to find out if there's already someone close to you because she might be interested to be close to you if there wasn't
