What are some reasons why a couple stays together even if they’re unhappy?

God tells us not to divorce. It's better for society, it protects the family and kids. Divorce is the reason for homelessness, drug use, kids without Dads, kids who don't know who they are, crime, loneliness, etc. And if we are divorced we are not to remarry until our mate dies. Why? Because God says! Because it protects kids. It is ok to stay for the kids. People divorce because they don't know how to be happy, they remarry because they are miserable alone. People need to do what God says and then families and our society would be happier in the long run.

@SW-User Then you separate for a while and work on the marriage. If anyone is violent then you call the police. But Jesus says we are to forgive 70x7 times.

@SW-User I am not looking! I have friends (including my x husband) and I will marry again if my x husband passes away. Until then there is plenty that God wants me to do in the world, and I dedicate my life to my kids and my work, volunteering, etc. I am fine. God calls single people to do many things that married people don't have time for, missions etc. We don't need to be married! (Unless we made an oath of commitment of course, then we better keep it)

People who abuse others never change, especially when they can’t even see they are an issue.

@SW-User I believe people change but even if they never do I would never divorce. I would separate but I would never divorce. I would do what I do now, dedicate my life to God. I want to hear God say, "Good and faithful servant" That is more important than anything else.
