OK, I guess I am old

Last night, my wife was talking to me about a road trip we took about year before we got married.

Along the way, we visited an ex-girlfriend of mine, who took us out to lunch at the restaurant in the hotel where she was the desk manager.

Sounds like a nice lunch event. But I have absolutely no memory of it! 😄

Yes, I remember the trip and other things we did, and other people we visited. But I do not remember meeting with my ex. I suppose I am trying to suppress my memories of her!

Scary eh? I have similar memories I have forgotten, like where we got some of our dogs.
Selective memory is a survival mechanism 😁

It bugs me when I can't remember something like that, and it happens fairly often when I'm speaking with my former husband.
Maybe you are trying to suppress memories of that particular 'ex', if most of them are bad.

@Piper I generally have negative feelings about that relationship. I should have broken it off rather than let it drag on as long as it did.

@DrWatson I have those very same feelings, about one of my long time relationships. 😑

Memories come back to me in fits and starts. Weird mundane things I remember much better than big events

@SW-User I can definitely relate to that. Three years ago, I was contacted by someone I had not seen or interacted with for 50 years. As we exchanged emails, all kinds of things rushed back into my memory that I had long forgotten about!

Before I can say how sympathetic I am I need to know when you got married. I mean, was it last week or fifty years ago? :-)
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon our 40th anniversary is next year.

@DrWatson Then a few lapses of memory regarding the year preceding the wedding is perfectly understandable! I have to think hard even to remember where I was living forty years ago!

Congratulations on making it this far, long may it continue.

Yup you ....... ah .......... never mind, I forgot what I was going to say. 🙄
Welcome to getting old!

@Guardian Thanks. I have embraced my inner geezer!
I'm pretty good on most of those things, except for the 90's, that while decade is a bit fuzzy.

[looks around].....seriously man, you took your wife on the family world tour and decided to drop in on your ex.
I'm just gonna let the crickets chirp out their verdicts.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@Freeranger I am friends with her exes and she is friends with mine.
