why did she lie to me?

Me and my friend went out to Panera. As we were walking in she told me she had a gift card to Panera that she forgot at home. Then when we went in she placed her order and pulled out her gift card to pay knowing exactly where it was. why did my friend lie to me? (We normally always pay separately anyway)
