Is withholding information the same as keeping secrets?

If you don’t open up to me and you keep secrets then I don’t like you cause it seems like your trying to hide something. For example, a friends told me she ran into another friend of ours and they talked about me. Then when I told my other friend that I heard they ran into each other and she didn’t say anything and I didn’t mention that they talked about me. Another time is if someone is sitting next to me laughing out loud texting someone and if I say like who are you talking to or what so funny they’ll say like no one or nothing. Me and my mom both feel this way so I don’t know if we’ve both just experienced it, or if it’s happened to us often, or if it’s just like a generational thing. Am I just irritated by when people act like this or is everyone else bothered when it seems like someone isn’t giving you the full story or hiding something?
