@Monalisaa1986 It is kind of like a credit card that you do not have to pay back. The government puts so much money on it each month but the money can be used ONLY for food at a grocery store.
Why they still call them "food stamps" who knows.

@Monalisaa1986 I do not think it helps the economy. It is basically assistance for low income people.
