One I missed

I was never popular in school, certainly not with boys. But when I started high school, there was this boy in one class who sat next to me and was always really friendly. He always said hello to me and asked me how my day was going. I developed a crush on him almost immediately, so I was really nervous and answered in monosyllables. He probably thought I was just being unfriendly.

One day, he told me he would be missing school the following day, and asked if I could get a copy of the assignment for him, and he would stop by my house later to pick it up. You can bet I made sure to do that. When he came by the next evening, I was a big dork, and just handed it to him and shut the door. Right after, I thought how I should have invited him in.

It gets worse. He moved a few weeks later, and I never saw him again. But a few weeks after that, I got a letter from him. I still have it. He said how he missed his old school and hadn't made any good friends yet at the new one. He ended it with "I miss you too, Lila." I thought of writing back, but couldn't think of what to say, and after enough time had passed, it felt weird to send him anything. So I never did.

But for years after that I had this rich imaginary life, where I had gone with him to where he had moved, and we were boyfriend and girlfriend, and I was thin and pretty and popular. It would be even more tragic if he was imagining the same thing about me. He probably was.

I really relate to this, but from the opposite direction. There was this beautiful fat girl that I had the biggest crush on in high school, but I was terrified to talk to her, so she had no idea. I did find her on Facebook many years later; by then she was a grandmother and I was married so of course nothing was going to happen. Of course I didn't tell her how I'd felt - what good would that have done? I did find out that she attended our ten-year high school reunion; I might have been ready for her if I'd gone and run into her there. She was married with a kid but separated from her husband at the time. I have no complaints about my life, but it's only natural to wonder what might have happened. Maybe in another universe I ended up with her. Or with any number of other women.
@jackjjackson Thanks, but I'm married and not looking for an outside squeeze.

I had s crush on a teacher, he called at my home, my patents allowed him up to my room as he was a teacher. He was so bold...

@Coitus He could have lost his career and been forever shamed: stupid man.
lovebcups · 61-69, M
@Coitus sounds like there is a good story behind this :)

Here's a thought: look him up on Facebook, or Instagram?
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Northwest I tried a few years ago, no luck.

I don't have a Facebook or Instagram account myself, so he wouldn't be able to find me, either. Assuming he wanted to after 8 years.

That’s a hard read…
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@SW-User Thanks. It wasn't easy to live it either.

I think many of us look back and regret some lost opportunities. You are young--let this motivate you to take advantage next time something seems possible. Could you still contact him?? You never know--he clearly liked you as well.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Docdon23 I just started seeing someone else, so it’s not an option now. Plus, this was 8 years ago.
Lostlostlost · 51-55, M
Of course he was thinking the same thing about you
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Lostlostlost I’m better now, thanks.
Lostlostlost · 51-55, M
@Lila15 pleased to hear it, what does the future hold
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@Lostlostlost if I knew what the future held, I’d be a crypto day trader! I could retire in a month.
Coitus · 41-45, F
My crush was turned into an affair
PTCdresser57 · 61-69, M
Awww...what a sweet thought
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Personally I think you are terrific. You’re smart and nice for starters.
Lila15 · 22-25, F
@jackjjackson Thank you! I appreciate it.
