I Don’t Know Why Anyone Buys Magazines Any More…

Some of them that used to be less than $2 are $5 or more now, maybe they are hoping that the buyers don’t look for the prices after they jacked them up. But there are still displays of them in the supermarkets for sale. For the price of 2 or 3 you can buy a book on Amazon or Ebay or even more than one book.

Yes, and by the time you get the magazine, the news is outdated.

Or, you can find the story referenced online from another source for free.

@DallasCowboysFan Well my remedy for that is to get in a longer line, pick up the magazine off the racks and leaf through it and put it back. They are nutz if they think people are going to spend that much money on a magazine with the price increases in groceries. Could buy some staple foods for that much money.

@cherokeepatti Many years ago I subscribed to Forbes, Businessweek, and another magazine I don't recall.

I don't subscribe to any of them now and I have not received a magazine for 10 years or more.
I saw one in Barnes and Noble recently and I replaced it in the rack when I saw it was $7.

No one reads them anymore. Even newspapers. I saw a local paper from Dallas recently. It was on a Saturday morning, they had it on dis play at WM. I could not believe how small it was. I was a paperboy when I was a kid ( Richmond , VA ) and even on the slowest day of the year our paper was not as small as the one I recently saw.

People are not reading them, so merchants don't advertise in them. It's slowly dying.

@DallasCowboysFan I am old enough to remember when the Classified ads took up several pages in our local newspaper, everything from, they do good to have 2 columns now. Even on Sundays when there were so many help wanted ads there might 3 or 4, usually at health care facilities that desperately need help. The paper is not published on Monday or Tuesdays, they cut back the page size and there are many fewer pages of news stories. They used to have a page of groups to help people like AA, therapy groups, weight loss etc. and now they no longer do those, also no engagement or baby announcements, it’s rare to see a wedding announcement since they charge so much per line. Obituaries have been scaled way back too due to the price.

@cherokeepatti They used to publish articles of crimes like theft and break-ins. They can’t anymore…might offend somebody. 🤷🏻‍♂️
