I Love the Library

Fun fact, I know every single employee at my library by name, even funner fact when I was 19 I recorded how much time I spent in the library one month and it turns out I was there for about 89 hours that month, Some would say I have a problem, I may be inclined to agree.

When I was little I lived with my Grandparents
I was there to help my Grandma who was dying ,so she was not alone when Grandpa had to work ,her medical bills were so high and medicines so expensive
She was in constant pain and I waited on her as much as possible
was there so she had someone to talk to ,and she also taught me a lot

There were no kids around my age to play with ,so I was very lonely
I would hang out at the water department but I am sure a little kid being there all the time got on their nerves ,they treated the water that went into the water tower that supplied our city with water .
I was a regular at the fire department ,sometimes they let me wash a truck or help roll up hoses ,but I am sure I was in the way more then I was helping ,I was like Guss and Beaver on Leave it to Beaver .
But at the library ,I was always welcome
The librarian Mrs Karden always seemed happy to see me (she told my Mom when I was in my 50's that I was one young man she would never forget ,she was proud of the man I had become and hoped she played some part in it ,she did.

She let me check in books and put them back on the shelves ,she taught me the Dewey Decimal Classification system and she said I was a big help to her .
We has cassette players so I could listen to tapes ,and movie projectors she would let me set up and watch movies (I loved cartoons )
When I was in 7th grade I ran the projectors for the AV club ,I was allowed out of my regular classes to run the projector for the whole school
all that experience from the library paid off ,,that was also the year I lost Grandma
I wrote book reports there that won me 2 metals on American history
and all the reading I did may have helped me pass the Naval Battery Test so that I could join the military when I was just 16
( I was on a delayed enlistment programs ,they don't send 16 yr olds to boot camp )
I have learned to play down who I am to an extent ,as a rule the world is not kind to people that act smarter than they are (I drive the grammar police here nuts ,its on purpose )
When I didn't have kids to play with ,and Grandma needed some rest
the library was my refuge ,,they had AC so I could get out of the heat
and I learned a lot
Its cool you love the library too
I fear with the internet one day they will be gone ,but I hope not

This could become a good short story... @Mindful
Do you work at the library or just stay there?
@SW-User Which section though:o
SW-User

I only really go to the library to study. I spend about 5 hours a day there Monday-Friday. But I don't really go there to find a book to read, lol.

@SW-User I do a bit of both, if I lock myself in a study room at the library less chance of me finding a way to be distracted while studying

Does that mean you are a bibliophile like yours truly? 🤓
