Book of the day

As i go through the collected dialogues, i must also fit in some of Plato's best after a lesser dialogue like Lesser Hippias, and i remember reading some of William H Gass' top 50 books and for Plato he chose Timaeus, it's a 5 hour read for me, and in this handy edition there's many helpful notes from Robin Waterfield, he's such a friendly chap, he can be seen in videos if searched for. I think i have all his Plato volumes except one, Gorgias :(

Timaeus goes into origins, going back 9,000 years from Plato's time, referring back to something Solon said to Critias. Solon is an interesting figure, i've heard about him a bit in those lectures i've been listening to, he was introducing democracy in some tough times, doing some stuff for some and other stuff for others, trying to get the farmers to go all in for olives for example which they refused to do, but eventually did.

Yes, i'm just beginning my inundation of all things Greek, trying to keep the Roman stuff to a minimum for the time being, there's a few aspects to master:

the time, dates and how they relate to the illustrious names and events, and geography, i need to look at maps more and videos where visuals are utilized.

Another to do thing is when other sources are cited which i have, to look those citations up, that's the kind of thing i used to only do with bible studies, i am to treat ancient Greece the same way, to really dig deep into the foundations of a more secular tradition of understanding the world and myself, where the foundation is largely the past, the constellations of beginnings in the human adventure with recorded thought, for we all know i assume that the human adventure was going on long before writing began.
