The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams

Reading it feels like living a life. It starts out with the simple wonders and interpretations of childhood and as we follow the child, life and the words that describe it become more complex, more nuanced. The perspective of a woman living through the changes of her life and her time with the power of words as her anchor. Just beautifully done I think.

I find the etymology of words most fascinating. Especially how even the meaning of words change over long periods of time.

@DeWayfarer exactly! This is part of the story. It’s somewhat based around the creation of the Oxford dictionary. I’ll never look at any dictionary quite the same way again. lol Those are the best books - the ones that change the way you see something 😄
