Susan Sontag in this Introduction makes a strong case for the John Cage approach to modern life, where there's a wonder guided by Zen Buddhism, whereas with Cioran, there's a cynical, skeptical gnostic weaving his darker thoughts, which to me feels more realistic and relatable than the Zen approach, which at least for me at this time can only be seen as mental unblocking kinds of aids like the Koan.
