@InterdimensionalSideEye Hjalmar Poelzig is a fictional character based upon Satanist Alister Crowley, portrayed by Boris Karloff in '34 The Black Cat.

Alister Crowley was an English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, novelist, mountaineer, and painter. He identified as a prophet.
He was content for the nature of divinity to remain a mystery. As a result, he wrote at times like an atheist, at times like a monotheist, and at others like a polytheist.

Sexuality played an important role in Crowley's ideas about "magick" and his practice of it.
He outlined three forms of sex magick—the autoerotic, homosexual, and heterosexual—and argued that such acts could be used to focus the magician's will onto a specific goal such as financial gain or personal creative success. For Crowley, sex was treated as a sacrament, with the consumption of sexual fluids interpreted as a Eucharist. This was often manifested as the Cakes of Light, a biscuit containing either menstrual blood or a mixture of semen and vaginal fluids.

In the Universal film The Black Cat,
Hjalmar Poelzig holds satanic rituals, often involving a young female. He has a dungeon where there are corpses of females, displayed standing upright in glass coffin/cases. It's unclear how he obtained these "trophy women."
He marries the wife of a close friend, then she winds up as one of the "trophy displays".... natural causes or???? He then marries her young daughter.
It's a pre-code over the top movie, and the first pairing of Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.

@InterdimensionalSideEye its a grimore on how to conjure the 72 demons King Solomon sealed away. I never read it myself but i use to have a friend that read and used the book. I flipped through her book, she acted like she didn't want me to touch it. I thought about getting the book for myself a few years ago since im already aware of some of the demons in it. But never did.

@OhPuhleeze Yes, I like the image also, it is important to remember though that in the 13th centaurs those images would have been terrifying to people. They didn’t have images all over and were very superstitious.

@JimboSaturn Totally. The monk was to be walled in and to avoid this he promised to write a book of the history of the world in a night. So at midnight, he realised he couldn’t do it and made a deal with the devil, who of course helped him. That’s the myth. The experts say that the entire book would have taken about 20 years to illustrate and pen. It was. also written by the same person. It’s the biggest book of its kind. I loved the illustrations in it also.
