This is one of my favourite short stories by Poe. There is something so darkly intense about him that I've always been fascinated by. A story that follows the narrator, Montresor, as he seeks revenge against his friend Fortunato. "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge." Montresor lures Fortunato into the catacombs to sample a rare cask of Amontilldo, but it soon becomes clear that something much darker is planned. I plan on reading this again once the darker nights start drawing in.. and perhaps with a nice glass of Amontillado sherry?
