I Love Books
Way back in 1999 I was involved in a Yahoo Group called the Yahoo Reading Room. Well, something like that, anyway. It's been a while. While I was there I met several writers. One named Geraldine Nesbitt wrote only a single novel but it remains one of my favorite books. Another named Ann Werner has gone on to write a number of books, each one a wonder. It was an honor to have met them through that Yahoo group and they are still friends of mine on Facebook.
I've met a number of authors over the years and some of them have become friends. I never try to delve into the reasons they write, the sources for their ideas, the inspirations. They get that aplenty from other fans. I just try to be a good friend.
Books have been the core of my life. Through every major event, both good and bad, I have had books to fall back on when the stress gets too high. I took a book with me when both my children were born! Books have been an integral part of my life and I can't imagine the person I would have been without them.
I am madly in love with a woman now who doesn't read. Oh, she certainly knows how to read and she's even written a book of her own which I am working, slowly, on editing. But she just isn't interested in reading. They say opposites attract. I suppose so. I wouldn't trade her for the world. And she understands when I need to wander out into the other room to spend some quality time with a book.
Books are my armor and my shield. I rely heavily upon them to get me through life. And it has been my great honor to have met some of the people who create these literary pieces of art. I'm a lucky guy. Long live books and the people who write them!
