I Love Books

What a find: a virtually like-new copy of Carlyle's The French Revolution (1956)from the Limited Editions Club. Red morocco and blue linen binding, book plate of original owner who took meticulous care of it. Original "Monthly Letter" enclosed.
It was like a time warp. I felt I could have received it a year or two after publication. The Letter, written at height of cold war, and not long after ChiComs came into power, was a reflection on the uncertain futures that revolutions produce.
I like how you describe the book in so much detail with more focus on the object than the content. That's skipped over so often, but that's where the experience of diving into the story starts.
@NerdyPotato It is rare that I'll buy a book I do not intend to read. But as a bibliophile, I approach the book as an object of art, the combination of design, typography and layout, binding, illustration.
@LamontCranston Good point. I think most lovers of books get that.
