I Love Books

We have a house full of physical books, really more than we should be trying to give space to. And I am also collecting quite a few books on my Kindle, since it is deals with the problem of space in the house and is also a wonderfully portable way to take books on a trip. I just discovered that many of the Kindle books I own have updates available and all I have to do is click a box to change to the latest version! I did it, but not without a paranoid misgiving. What if a day comes when almost all of the books that everyone owns are actually digital books? What if some dishonest government wants to change the historical record? Done with a click!

I'm thinking of getting a Kindle. Any advice?

They have a number of options depending on which features are most important to you. I have a Kindle Fire because I figure you can always use one more portable option to access the Internet 😉 (and I don’t have a smartphone, though I do have an iPhone Touch which is almost the same, which I love)! For a long time (until I got the iPod) I used my Kindle Fire almost exclusively for playing Words with Friends). If you don’t care about accessing the Internet, then you could concentrate more on whatever actual reading features matter most to you - and get a less expensive Kindle rather than a Kindle Fire.

There was an option of purchasing the Kindle Fire with or without advertising. The difference in price was quite small. I’ve never used one that had advertising but I doubt that saving that little bit of money would be worth looking at ads every time I turn on the device.

@Poppies Thanks. I really appreciate your advice. I will probably get an advertisement free Kindle Fire.

@greenmountaingal I've got the Kindle app on my smartphone. That way I only have to carry one device with me. While I love physical books, the ability to carry a small library with you is something I find quite convenient.

@Bushranger I live in one rented room. I am learning to downsize everything and take up as little space as possible.
