What should I name my characters?!

I'm writing a book, and I'm running out of names. What should I call them?

hi RayKyler
A name is an identifier. Mohamed is a cultural religious identifier rather than an individual personal name. So you could name your characters culturally and personally such as Mohamed Ali. Surnames are family group identifiers and cultural identifiers. Then there are nicknames and also names we give ourselves and only think!
I suppose you need to think about your characters and work out who they re and from that find their names.
Best wishes

@sogdianrock: Thanks! My characters are, quite simply, normal people. I'm just looking for normal, American names that aren't quite as common as 'Bob' , 'John', or 'Emily'. Ordinarily I would craft the name after their character, but these are minor characters and it isn't terribly important

hi RayKyler
Everything is terribly important in fiction writing. You are creating a world. Look at the backstory to each character in Harry Potter for example! You have to create depth! Also you would not have asked the question if you were not happy with names you could find in a phone book.
It is an interesting question what is in a name!
