i don't know why, but it interesting to me

One of the worst of American history, made me feel terrible, those poor innocent women. All in the name of religion, one area where mankind really hasn't evolved much. We carry this shame even unto this day.

@Jinxey: Do you believe it was 'religion' per se? I think it was sexism: That men in the community lusted after these women and then blamed the women for 'seducing' the men. Thus it was simple to label the women (who did not have a political voice) and simply remove the threat of having to answer for their own weakness.
Any counter thoughts?
