Just finished Floating Hotel by Grace Curtis. Has anyone read that one? How does a Sci-Fi book in outer space have so little Sci-fi and read more like an Agatha Christie novel. It was a fun little read anyway. I could picture it well, very descriptive language.

The best Sci Fi is based around human character and feelings, leading to events. Simply placed in an SF environment😷

@PeachyK OK. Maybe Fantasy worlds like LOTR are more you. I prefer the hard science, rather than magic and quests to save princesses.😷

@PeachyK Granted. But if there is a wizard in the group I am suspicious..I accept FTL travel for the sake of the plot, or else nothing would happen in outer space.. But I respect the laws of physics..

Much, perhaps most, of the best SF is about the human condition. The SF setting allows the author to concentrate on particular aspects that might be difficult to isolate otherwise.

Take Ursula K. LeGuin's novel The Dispossessed for instance. It uses space travel to firmly separate two societies i order to compare and contrast them.
