I'm not really a horror girlie, but I love the ones that are in other genres like Hearts in Atlantis.

SpectralMourning · 46-50, M
I love his short story collections. A few of my favorites are The Mist, The Jaunt, 1408, Quitters Inc.
peterlee · M
@SpectralMourning The think The Mist is one of his best.
MrSmartyPants · 46-50, M
I like the one where the guy stranded on an island has to eat himself to stay alive forgot what it’s called though.
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
@MrSmartyPants Survivor Type

@SumKindaMunster thank you!!
I read pretty much all of them and Rage remains my favorite.
peterlee · M
@DancingStarGoddess Can you still buy The Rage. King withdrew it in the USA.
@peterlee i don't believe you can still buy it. I have a few copies of the book with it included before it was ever removed. Both without the name "Stephen King" On it and also with "Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman" on the cover. And yes, i know. Why do you ask?
peterlee · M
@DancingStarGoddess Your recommendation. Thank you.

Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was probably the best one ive read. Ive read a bunch but thats the only one i really rememeber. Probably because they made a movie out of it though.
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
@Penny "Different Seasons". This also has "The Body" which was made into the movie "Stand by Me" one of the best adaptations done on King's work.
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
Oh man, pretty much all of his short stories...reading "You like it Darker" right now...not as good as his older stuff.

Definitely check out "Night Shift" which has most of his early short stories and also "Skeleton Crew" is another fantastic collection.
peterlee · M
@SumKindaMunster Both these collections are very good. You can dip into them.

There is a rumour, just a rumour, that he has ghost or franchise writers now\

Yes, I was disappointed with You like it Darker.

I've not read any of his short stories, but I thought Misery was very well written and effective. Horror isn't really my thing, so after a chapter or two of The Fog I gave up reading him, even though he is a gifted author.
peterlee · M
@bijouxbroussard He has brilliant descriptions of American everyday life too.
@peterlee He’s an excellent writer. I like much of his non-horror works. I read "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" long before the movie came out.
peterlee · M
@bijouxbroussard I find his style easy to follow, but I read slowly.

I find his longer books too verbose. And I don’t have patience or time to stay with a long novel.
The Lawnmower Man from the Night Shift collection.
Stay away from the movie version.
peterlee · M
@robingoodfellow Movie versions are often poor. King did not like Jack Nicholson in the Shining.

Personally I enjoyed Dr Sleep, especially Rebecca Ferguson’s interpretation of Rose the Hat.
Neuman · M
a few of the collections. i read the green mile as a serial when he was trying that.

Nobody mentioning Cujo… I still think about that book whenever I’m packing the car for a short trip.
