Miss MacIntosh, My Darling -- Marguerite Young

A 1965 modernist novel, anything in the Dalkey Archive is good stuff, oh this is a pure pleasure to read, much better with this than with Lonesome Dove, i'd choose this over Proust any day, and I say that because Proust is generally seen as a benchmark in luscious prose, but as I see it, a few outdid the master, Marguerite being just of them. With an Preface by none other than Anais Nin!!
