The Philokalia Vol. 1

The Philokalia is a collection of ancient and not too old texts of mostly Desert fathers and people like that, of the Orthodox branch of Christianity, and this stuff I can stomach well at this point, I need to be far away from what I've always seen as theologically the best, and go for these kinds of writings which actually have practical suggestions. All too often in Reformed literature, when it comes to ethical subjects and concerns you're merely encouraged to do something in relation to, through and in the 2nd Person of the Trinity, there's so little practicality in there. The Sermon on the Mount is the kind of Bible text that I see the Orthodox emulating more effectively, where the Reformed are mimicking the Epistles.
