When the Rain Stopped
Rain tapped steadily against the windows, as though the entire world had decided to pause. Inside the small café, only two people remained. Each was absorbed in a book, wrapped in a silence that felt surprisingly comfortable.
Every now and then, their eyes met.
At first, only for a fleeting moment.
Then a little longer.
When the waiter announced that the café was closing, they both stood up at the same time. Outside, the rain was pouring.
"Would you mind sharing an umbrella?" came the quiet question.
A smile was the only answer.
They walked slowly, so close that their shoulders occasionally brushed against each other. Neither stepped away. Neither was in a hurry. The rain created a strange sense of privacy, as if the city had disappeared and only the two of them remained.
At the corner of the street, they stopped.
"I live here."
It should have been a goodbye.
Instead, a long silence settled between them.
Their eyes searched for answers that words could never express.
Their fingers met unexpectedly. At first, only lightly, as if making sure the other person was really there. Then their hands intertwined completely.
Their hearts beat a little faster.
There was no impatience.
Only a quiet mixture of curiosity and undeniable attraction.
They stepped closer.
The scent of rain blended with a delicate fragrance and the warmth of shared breath. Only a few inches separated them. The smiles slowly faded, replaced by a tension that couldn't be ignored.
The first kiss was gentle.
Brief.
Like a question.
The second needed no answer.
When they reluctantly pulled apart, neither of them spoke. A soft touch against the cheek and a lingering look were enough to promise that this would not be their last meeting.
A phone suddenly vibrated.
The silence shattered.
A message appeared on the screen.
"If you're where I think you are... leave now. It's not too late."
They looked at each other.
Neither of them had sent the message.
And yet, it had appeared on both of their phones at exactly the same moment.
