A quote from author Ursula K. Le Guin

On her Earthsea books:

"Nine-year olds read Lord of the Rings and eighty- nine year olds read Alice in Wonderland. I want to follow my characters out of adolescence into their whole lives, and I trust my readers to follow them with me....I was writing my main characters through my own life and their lives, and they were long rich lives. I am grateful to my readers for living those lives with them."

And this is why I loved reading the Earthsea books so much in one big volume of almost 1000 pages.
Following characters from childhood through old age. It's as much a life journey as a fantasy.

I read the Trilogy, I guess in my late teens and loved them. were there more that followed?
@fun4us2b there are 5 novels, and in between the 4th and 5th novels there's a book of short stories that fills in some holes
I agree with her approach and I have read some of her work. Sadly the her stories were a little too fantasy and not enough SF to grab me in the way Asimov and Heinlein did. But following a character throughout their lives, or a society for than matter is a strong narrative anchor.😷
She only wrote a short stack.
Terry Pratchett. Forty novels, half a dozen long stand alone stories...

I don't know why I never read them.
@SleepingWithGhosts I'm late to the party too. Glad I finally got to them
