What my next 3 weeks will look like for reading
For the most part, the hyper focus, selected with quasi effort, for with this stuff, i'm feasting on, if to my merit only later will my output show it.
Rainer Maria Rilke
Poetry, many more to get from other translators
1. The Book of Hours
2. The Book of Images
3. New Poems
4. Duino Elegies
5. Sonnets to Orpheus
6. Uncollected Poems
7. Auguste Rodin -- the famous sculptor taught Rilke a lot about craft. Gass writes a great Introduction.
8. The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge -- his novel
9. Rilke a Soul History -- a great biography, also one on Lou Andreas-Salome.
Letters -- Rilke said soon before dying that he considered his Letters as part of his work, so that is really nice, because his Letters are awesome, there's over 14,000 of them, so I hope more are translated into English!!
10. Rilke and Andreas-Salome
{11. You Alone Are Real to Me -- I fit this in because it's Lou's bio on Rilke}
12. Letters to a Young Poet
13. The Dark Interval
14. Letters on Life
15. Reading Rilke -- William Gass' book where he tries to translate Rilke, Gass was obsessed, he even talks about it in the opening pages of The Tunnel, his BIG BOOK, which is the subject of the next grouping.
The BIG book, is not the best descriptor of what these were and are, they are long, and a world unto themselves, complex, requiring multiple readings.
16. The Recognitions
17. JR
18. Miss MacIntosh, My Darling
19. Gravity's Rainbow
20. Darconville's Cat
21. The Tunnel
22. Foucault's Pendulum
23. Infinite Jest
There will be other readings, I am however unable to write them all down, something inside and unseen force keeps me from doing so, but I like the duality here set forth, Rilke and the BIG books, yin and yang. ☯
