Where Ellenor learns, journey's end where lovers meet, and the nicest treasure might be a teacup with tiny stars painted on the bottom found at some forgotten shop of trinket's that is happened upon an almost forgotten country road.

Her throat gave a quick little rush of air as she thought of herself at long last escaping the chronic, annoying care of her invalid mother. The constant disapproval of her brother and sister-in-law no longer of any matter.

Hill House stood tall and formidable against the afternoon greying sky, the statuary in the courtyard, Danced not but remained shiny white, Alabaster, with a grinning malevolence.

Bricks met neatly, and whatever walked at Hill House walked alone. Ellenor stood and stared a long moment, she almost thought the darkening windows were staring back, quietly beckoning, whispering, like thinly veiled threats meant for no one in particular. Or, perhaps like Ellenor were oddly invited.

Great book. We Have Always Lived In The Castle is my favorite of her novels.
