I've been reading this book about slavery

And I found a disturbing chapter last night. It went on to talk about the masters having children with their slaves. When a white man got one of his slaves pregnant, he usually kept his child until he was old enough to sell. On the other hand, if a white woman were impregnated by one of her slaves, she would have the baby and then smother it. People were getting pregnant to kill their kids in front of them as punishment. It was insane back then.
