The Lost World

Finished the book by Conan Doyle - the same Scots guy who wrote Sherlock Holmes. The original story is far better than the silly films!
I recall an Edinburgh climber - Dougal Haston, I think - was the first to climb the South American plateau that inspired the book. He didn't find any dinosaurs, though!

It is sad that Conan Doyle seems only remembered for Sherlock Holmes now. The Professor Challenger stories are a great read.

@JoeXP They are - and the White Company is also worth looking at.

@LizOwen I like Rider Haggard and Jules Verne as well. I read them all as a child and all the Dumas not just The Three Musketeers

If you like that you'll love Edgar Rice Burroughs' Earth's Core (Pellucidar) series. He's the guy that created Tarzan.

@MissPerfect absolutely! Can't beat Burroughs or Conan Doyle for good old-fashioned adventure stories.

Whilst well known as an author Conan Doyle was also a qualified Doctor 🙂

@MissTaken he was- and served as a surgeon on board a whaling ship.
