June 2022 LGBTQ2S+ books
I love how there's a new letter added every so often. Tonight i'm getting back to some of my Lesbian fiction books on the kindle, my interest is centered around the female experience, which can go into a few directions. In the past i loved writers like Jean Genet, and film directors like Derek Jarman. I'm attracted to the fatalism woven into the experience, which in these days may be lost to some, as what was a counter cultural thing has become a mainstream thing.
1. Stone Butch Blues - this is the kind of title i see as having known about it before actually reading it, it's legendary, and it cost me a pretty penny to get a used paperback copy. It's pretty good, makes me want to read again Genet.
2. Lili - the telling of the 1st sex change operation, in the 1920's, extremely historically interesting.
3. Portrait of a Marriage - memoir of an open marriage in the early 20th century, a Lesbian classic, elusive and mysterious, reading it will be like entering an enchanted garden i think.
4. Nightwood - Djuna Barnes' work is destined to be a key text for me.
5. The Price of Salt - Patricia Highsmith, aka as Carol, much hyped, much looking forward to it.
6. Tipping the Velvet - i got the audio of this also, so it should be a treat and a half, this is what i understand to have been what made lesbian fiction mainstream.
7. Rubyfruit Jungle - like #1, it just has that kind of title you know about long before reading it.
That's all i think i can fit into June while still reading horror and thrillers. Could go into July too.
Happy June to all 🧡
