Paul McCartney - The Lyrics

Anyone else reading this? Very well produced but a bit steep in price at £75. A little over £45 on Amazon, and together with a £20 gift voucher from a mate of mine (bless him) I managed to get it for about £25.

Some wonderful illustrations, one below of a poster printed during the early days when the Beatles toured northern England..

Top seats, 9/6, but you could sit at the back and scream your head off for a mere 5 bob.

The illustrations are interspersed with little biographical jottings and one has just caught my eye....

Paul is speaking of the very early days when writing songs, of "not really knowing what we were doing" and of being self-taught.

We weren't able to read music or write it down so we just made it up. My dad was just the same. And there's a certain joy that comes from your stuff if you didn't mean it, if you didn't try to make it happen and it happens of its own accord. There's a certain magic about that. So much of what we did came from a deep sense of wonder.....

This tells of the Pure Land way of hakarai, the way of "no-calculation" where things are made to become so of themselves, or as the Gospel of St Mark has it, the earth brings forth fruits of herself.

Whatever, I can recommend the book..
