Murder mystery fans: Who's your favorite fictional detective or investigator?

For me, it's probably Lew Archer, the private detective brought to life by author Ross MacDonald.

Giving away my age, here is someone not many remember unless they've seen the old reruns: Joe Mannix. There was a TV show about him in the late 1960's until the mid 70's. I also liked Paul Drake on the old "Perry Mason" going back to the 1950's and 60's. Even though he wasn't the main character of the show, he played a good part. (At least I thought so.)

@OldSchool Good choices; I am definitely old enough to remember them.

@greenmountaingal Thanks, so nice to know they haven't been forgotten!
What I liked about Paul Drake was that Perry Mason could always count on him to help come with what was needed to "get the goods" on who was guilty.

@OldSchool Along those lines how about Barnaby Jones. I liked that he was one of the first onto forensics and always had a good relationship with the police.I

@MasterDvdC Barnaby Jones had his moments, especially when you could get past him having played Jed on "The Beverly Hillbillies"! (Again, giving away my age!) Actually, in all fairness, Buddy Ebsen was a pretty good actor in his own right.
