Murder mystery fans: Who's your favorite fictional detective or investigator?

For me, it's probably Lew Archer, the private detective brought to life by author Ross MacDonald.

Colombo, because he looked sloppy & unkempt & talked like he wasn’t well-educated the criminals let down their defenses and told off on themselves. That works good in real-life, let people think you are dumb & they’d say things that hint on disrespectful, when you don’t react they think it’s gone over your head. Then you can figure out what they’ve done or are up.

@cherokeepatti Speaking as a natural blonde who used to be very pretty when I was young, I agree that people believing you're dumb can have some real advantages.

@greenmountaingal I’ve played dumb and that trick works really well. It’s like playing poker, you don’t show em if you got a good hand to play. If they think you are dumb it feeds their ego and their egos trip them up.
