Brilliant video! So many other things to say but I'll keep it short lol. I'm a bit surprised that Clive Barker of Hellraiser hated Lovecraft as Clive is one of my other favorites and it's a bit weird now reading him while knowing that lol.
I do disagree with one thing, what Michel Houellebecq said about the character of Lovecraft fascinating us because his system of values is entirely opposed to ours is complete shit. Lovecraft was the creator of [b]cosmic horror[/b], when he wrote he had a way of putting humanity into the background. The scariest thing was being reminded of how small you were while there were other forces at play.
I mean, it's not "scary" now, it probably is an outdated trope but it is scary in the fact of how much we rely on identity and how much Lovecraft utterly destroyed everything we love about ourselves, reminding us that things are only temporary.
NOT because Lovecraft was racist or whatever, there's racists all over the place, they're not that "fascinating."
Lovecraft wasn't "fascinating" for that at all but I still read him because he was one of the greats
And loved cats... and made a story about how it came to be illegal to kill cats in the town of Ulthar, I've had this in my mind since I was really young also. I just love stories where animal abusers get their day 馃憤
