Escape From Freedom -Erich Fromm. People have been so easy to give up freedom and decision making.

@SheikYerbouti This is a very important book. It's a book about the present time.

@helenS It is. I recommend that and then reading The True Believer-Eric Hoffer

@SheikYerbouti Thank you for your recommendation. I'll put that on my list.

@helenS I still read True Believer occasionally. Very profound observations on why people join mass movements, cults, etc. Much food for thought.

@SheikYerbouti Mass movements are not bad per se. The American civil rights movement comes to mind.

@helenS It's not frowning upon mass movements per se, only an insight as to why they happen and gain adherents. That said, it looks more at destructive groups.

@SheikYerbouti Briefly, in my opinion, mass movements are bad if they are authoritarian. They appear to be "democratic" just because they have plenty of followers.

@helenS They start off as a reaction to the status quo. But, they either become noble or corrupt as they gain acceptance. Bolshevik and the American Revolution had similar beginnings, totally different conclusions.
