Aeschylus. Samuel Johnson. Beckett. I tend to think of literary figures for those to admire.

I wasn’t thinking of characters but of them as men whose lives I admire and respect. Among many others.

With considerable suffering. I would also include TS Eliot as a figure I greatly respect.
