Is being desperate ever a good thing ?

I was reading this poem yesterday and it was mentioned how being desperate was beautiful.

“But there is nothing more beautiful than being desperate, and there is nothing more risky than pretending not to care.”

What do you think?

I think in the traditional way we see and think of it no. But maybe it is being described in the sense of being so in love with your partner you’d be desperate to keep them because they mean so much to you. You may even do things that for anyone else you’d barely care to try. But I didn’t write it so not sure
