Is being desperate ever a good thing ?

I was reading this poem yesterday and it was mentioned how being desperate was beautiful.

“But there is nothing more beautiful than being desperate, and there is nothing more risky than pretending not to care.”

What do you think?

There's no context here. It's just a couple of random statements. It might make more sense if we knew the complete poem.

@Serenitree I’m not referring to the whole poem just that one sentence as in do you view being desperate a beautiful thing. There’s no examples of it in the poem, it just starts another line and the poem is also extremely long.
