Is being desperate ever a good thing ?

I was reading this poem yesterday and it was mentioned how being desperate was beautiful.

“But there is nothing more beautiful than being desperate, and there is nothing more risky than pretending not to care.”

What do you think?

@Stark For me, alcohol is what brought me to despair. In turn, this unfortunate situation actually became a beautiful gift. For in my desperation I finally became willing to do whatever it took to recover. Had I not reached that bottom, and the desperate circumstances I found myself in, I might not be here to post this reply.
