Did you know that in the Middle Ages, when someone was executed

It was customary for them to give the hangman, axeman or guillotine operator a tip?

The person being executed had to give a tip?
@caccoon I don't think they had to. They probably executed them anyway. If they didn't give a tip they got dead anyway, but the executioner probably followed them into the afterlife asking, "Was the service not satisfactory?"
