Why can’t people just text each other? What’s the purpose of the whiteboard? To publicly say hello and so everybody knows you’re friends? I guess I don’t understand it is all.
@Keepitsimple I like the point you just made! But I guess they have their reasons for the white boards!

I’m not sure what the whiteboard purpose is exactly but maybe it’s just another cute option to add the profiles?@Oneandonlyme

@SweetMae I think the term "white board" goes back to the stone ages of internet social media.

I'm trying to remember when I first heard it. Probably before AOL was even a gleam in Steve Case's eyes :)
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Heartlander That is possible. I wasn't involved in social media back then.

@SweetMae :) I just took a scenic detour down memory lane. Before AOL there was CompuServe and hundreds, thousands of local bbs's and chat groups using various computer programs.

As I recall, daytime connect time was expensive. Like $35 per hour. At a 300 baud rate the emphasis was on brevity. Three to five word sentences were the normal :)

@chuck7882 Thank you!
