Hate speech has evolved from saying bad things directly to people to saying something about the nature of what one thinks is wrong. To speak against homosexuality in general for example is considered hate speech, so, one cannot even state their opinions on that lifestyle. It essentially has been taken off the table. Ministers cannot preach against it for example, but it is never hate speech to rail against the Christian religion.

I guess railing against homosexuality is just so ridiculous in this day and age that you can't come out against it without sounding like a hateful bigot.

And yeah, christianity doesn't get much protection bashing the same way white people don't get much protection from racism

I don't think there is a line. As Dolimyte said hate speech is still free speech. American soldiers die for our flag and our Constitution, which gives the right to burn that same flag to those that hate it.

@RealMustangGuy

Well i don;t think american soldiers have died for america or its constitution for a long time, but isn't there at least a functional line?

@oberpa

ok, well assuming a western nation where race, creed and sexuality are protected

@Dolimyte

But one is a protected right and one is not
So where's the line

It depends on who is in power. He who has the club makes the rules.
