Coyote J. Calhoun gets Fired from Z-102, Live On The Air

This was an amusing find

[media=https://youtu.be/_hLB6YezJgs]

Birmingham, Alabama DJ Coyote J. Calhoun goes off format one evening in 1988 on FM hit station WZBQ FM Z-102, diverging from the tightly controlled Top 40 format and starts playing classic rock and current album cuts. Management is not amused, does not approve, and eventually Coyote is forcibly and physically removed from the stdio, while the mic was open and on the air.

Hmm. Interesting recording, but my understanding of radio studios is that the feed from them can be cut in several places not just at the desk. This sounds to me like a publicity stunt, perhaps as a station changes its format or because the DJ is handing in his resignation in a particularly spectacular way.

@FreddieUK Great point!! I thought maybe in the 80s they really had just one mic turn off option ....:)

@BooksRMe I only know about British studios, but there would have been a studio to TX switch somewhere else. The fact that there was no swearing is also suspicious…unless I missed it.

@FreddieUK Lack of swearing, the clincher for me, this was so a stunt!! ty
