The scientific method has "proven" several things that have since been disproven. Usually when something we thought to be true is disproven it also raises several new questions. The fact that people aren't willing to believe that X is true is what allows science to evolve and grow. I love it!

@NoOneYouKnow: The thing I love is tho no matter if 99% of scientists say no it does not matter as that 1% shows the truth. The truth does not change with your willingness to accept it

@WaterSpirit: the slippery slope there is knowing when the truth has actually been found. Look at how often the "official scientific stance" of things like our universe and black holes has changed. The "truth" about how many planets are in our solar system and how many moons those planets have has changed many times over the years as science evolved. People challenging what's currently considered true is what drives discovery.
