From Hunger, movie on Netflix.

"My mother was a maid, I watched how the rich live their lives, and it made me wonder how come we never get to use what they use? Why didn't we ever get to eat what they eat? Especially those shiny black beads in a jar, I knew they were expensive, caviar is something the poor can never afford. My mother had to work her ass off for months, just to pay for that tiny jar of spilled caviar. After I got caught, we had to clean up the mess, the caviar was all over the floor.

You know what really surprised me?

It tasted like total shit!

What you eat represents your social status, it has nothing to do with love. The poor eat simply to satisfy their hunger but when you have more than enough to eat, your hunger doesn't end. You hunger for approval, for
something special, for exclusive experiences. That shitty caviar made me realize that I wanted to be a chef. I wanted to be the kind of chef that rich bow down to, begging him to cook for them.

I would make them hungry for me!"

I take it the writer has never actually been hungry because if they did then their poor character would have scarfed that caviar down since hunger suppresses negative flavors which caviar can barely be said to have. Now if they were talking about eating gold flakes then I could get on board

@Jackaloftheazuresand The caviar was broken on the floor and the poor kid was curious and tasted a small thing of it as his mother was cleaning it up. The rich kid caught the poor kid trying to steal the caviar to try it and then it broke. So the chef talks about his mother having to work her ass off just to pay off the price of the caviar.
