Why are adults unable to fix the world?
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Doomflower I am saying we are unfixable. We aren't broken. We were strong enough to not be broken.
chrisCA · M
@Doomflower We are too self centered.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@chrisCA so that explains why they literally raise other humans to fix their mistakes.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Doomflower I don't know anyone that has done that. I adopted my sons to give them a good home. I made sure the abuse stopped with me.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@SweetMae everyone should adopt rather than creating more people. If it were up to me no more births would be permitted until every existing human has their basic needs met.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Doomflower The problem is, we can't control an imperfect world no matter how hard we try.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@SweetMae yet ANOTHER reason not to have kids
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Doomflower What if your parents had felt that way?
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@SweetMae I would not exist! I would never have experienced pain or suffering. I would not have been happy, but I wouldn't miss it either.

By not existing my actual and potential suffering would be eliminated.

In my philosophy eliminating actual and potential harm comes before maximizing actual and potential well being.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Doomflower I am sorry you suffer so much pain.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@SweetMae I suffer a great deal less than most people in human history and no more than anyone else.

It is not the amount but the presence of suffering. I'm so against creating sapient and sentient beings capable of suffering I don't even think we should be making AI because we are SHIT at nurturing developing minds.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Doomflower At the same time, I don't think that it is fair to paint everyone with the same brush. There are some very good parents in the world that raise upstanding young adults.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@SweetMae as a species we are garbage at raising little humans. No one I know has escaped childhood unscathed. Even the best parents cannot protect their children every second. When I say "we" I truly mean it.

It's only in the last century we've learned to stop hitting children and many people still don't give a spit about the extensive research into the effects of hitting them - they hit them anyway and it is for some reason not considered abuse.

All. Humans. Suffer. No one escapes.
@Doomflower so...in following your philosophy...what sorta idea are you talking about in eliminating harm, and maximising potential un humanity?
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@BoobooSnafu I feel like I am explaining something super simple.

My philosophy is to work to minimize actual and potential harm and maximize actual and potential well being. In that order.

All humans suffer. All humans experience harm. Thus creating more of us causes an increase in the actual and potential suffering in our species.
@Doomflower well you're not really.

Radically reducing population by elimination of procreation doesn't work. It's not economically viable.
Nations have faced this problem even when there HAS been only a slight but prolonged reduction in population .

We all know we suffer as a species.

I was wondering what solutions you have implemented to support your philosophies on the suffering of others .

I mean ...we can all do something ...and it would be great if we did.
