I Like a Good Quote
"You'll never understand a person until you consider things from their point of view... you need to climb into their skin and walk around in it." - Atticus Finch
Retrieved from 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee.
This is one of my most favourite and meaningful quotes I've ever read from a novel, which I'd like to further evaluate upon. I really do wish people don't just assume the identity of another party until they know the full truth. I see this mistake happen every day.
To begin, I'll admit that I have mild ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). What does that tell you?
Many people think that I have issues with giving a speech, unable to be pro-social, difficulty making friends, poor advocacy, ego-centric, etc. There are positive aspects of ASD however, but they vary with each person diagnosed with ASD. In actual fact, please follow what Atticus says and don't assume my symptoms associated with the issues listed above. Some of them affect me, but not all of them. To be honest, depending on situations I do become quite confused if it's new and unfamiliar to me. In addition, I am quite ego-centric; I talk to myself a lot and daydream a lot - something I'm trying to cut back on because it's quite embarrassing. But, I used to be quite anti-social but I kind of outgrew that symptom - that's what most people misunderstand. They think my speech is poor and prefer to be alone. WRONG!!! I love talking to people, I have a lot of close friends, I give fluent and effectively spoken speeches and it's not affecting me for how I live. I can drive, I study at university, I work and earn money, I tutor young kids maths and science, and so all.
Overall, I'm just a normal person. In fact, I've never needed to go to a special class at school because I just don't need special attention. I wish people understand how it really affects me. To conclude, make sure you stand in someone else's shoes and learn more person aspects from them before making any judgment.
