I Like a Good Quote

"Just because you’re angry doesn’t mean you’re right.

Just because you believe something doesn’t mean it’s true.

Just because you’re intelligent doesn’t mean you’re wise.

Just because you’re human doesn’t mean you’re superior.
Humility is the key to liberation, and love is the key to humility."

Hmmmm...I disagree with a bit of that. If you are angry, you are angry. So you are right. That's your perspective, and it's intrinsically 'right'. And its ok to be angry. Now this doesn't mean that you can't try to see other perspectives. You can listen and come to more of a middle ground...but anger is an alarm bell that has had millions of years of evolution behind it. Give it some credit.

Sure, unsubscribe if you want. That's okay too, for you. But this is a forum of ideas. And I don't have to agree with everything that is up here, just as you don't have to agree with me! It doesn't have to spoil your cereal. Its just my thoughts. And is something I am very interested in at the moment. I think too often we suppress our emotions, saying that we aren't right, hiding from anger. Anger is good for the soul. Quotes are powerful, so we must be careful on what we take for granted in them. And ps, I didn't contradict myself. My perspective is right to me, his perspective is right to him, end of story. Just because someone has a different perspective than you, doesn't mean you cant comment on it. There is no absolute right or wrong. That's the whole point! I really don't know how else to explain this. Thanks for sharing though. This conversation has been meaningful. :)

I don't think anyone's trying to deny credit to the evolutionary value of anger. It would be equally as valid to say, "just because you're angry doesn't mean you're wrong."

But...

Anger, being such a loud evolutionary alarm bell, tends to deafen us to what might actually be the truth of a situation. In that way, I think "correct" might've been a better word choice than "right" in the quote. What's intrinsically right might be very different from what's extrinsically correct.

In other words, my evolutionary alarm might go off before I've had the chance to truly understand the situation.

Ahhhh, yes! That is fully correct, and I wasn't denying that. You can agree that a word like 'right' is not the best to use...and that's what I was pointing out. Words like 'right' and 'wrong' have a lot of weight behind them.

I like to use 'accurate' and 'inaccurate' owing to the fact that more information may be needed before an 'accurate' picture may be painted. "Just because you are angry doesnt mean you are accurate"
